小费是美国生活方式的一部分，尤其是在餐饮业。但大多数美国人并不知道，绝大多数为他们提供餐饮服务的员工都拿不到最低工资，只能依靠小费来养活自己和家人。由于联邦政府规定的小费员工最低工资仅为2.13美元，许多服务员和餐厅员工不得不依靠食品券才能勉强糊口。随着这些员工开始发声并组织起来争取体面的生活工资，情况正在发生改变。《转折点》这部纪录片将芝加哥的娜塔基·罗兹和底特律的娜奥米·德贝贝等员工的个人故事，与全国各地成千上万的餐厅和其他快餐店员工争取尊严、尊重和公平工资的努力交织在一起。
